A Personal Question About Negative Thoughts

From my understanding so far, thoughts are energy and they have an effect on everything around us. More and more I am understanding this and feeling a responsibility where my thinking is concerned. However, I don't really know what to do with a negative thought once it comes up and I do feel bad that it even appeared (though I understand I am still learning and very imperfect). In the past, I struggled with intrusive thoughts, and although this is not so much of an issue at this point in my life, I admit that I will think things at times that I know are not ideal. Sometimes I will not immediately respond in my heart and my mind in a loving way. If I am stressed or feeling defensive, I may think thoughts out of anger or hopelessness and later realize that this is not what I would have chosen if I had had more clarity.
Is it possible to totally rid ourselves of negative thoughts? Controlling actions and words seems very doable- but thoughts seem to sneak up in there before I have even had a chance to really consider their value. They just pop in. It frightens me a bit to believe that all thoughts are prayers, because certainly there are some thoughts that I would never want to be realized or even perpetuated. A thought comes up and I think - "no, no- stop right now- I do not want to send you into the world" --but there it is, already a thought, already energy.
So, if thoughts are energy and I am trying to grow into a more loving person and honor my creator and all others in this way, how can this be done if those thoughts sometimes just appear? How can I control my thoughts if I can't even see them coming? Does it just take practice- like recognizing the thought earlier on and changing it and eventually negative thoughts will no longer come up? Or is this unrealistic? Has anyone had experience with this or does anyone have any suggestions as to how I may begin to tackle this uncharted territory of my mind?
I ask these things out of a sincere desire to learn and grow and work towards being a better, brighter individual for everyone. Thank you.

It is possible to rid oneself of negative thoughts..... You incarnated with a life plan, every single experience was mapped out by YOU in both polarities and and all archetypes.... just like a movie, you have free will to experience all of these, all are positive experiences enabling lessons to be learned.... You have soul contracts with everybody that comes into your life, they all agreed to play the role you wished them to play. Some souls entered to give you a lesson, some souls to receive a lesson from you....... Negative thoughts are illusions of the ego, your mind.... Before releasing perceived negative thoughts it is always prudent to take time to reflect these thoughts back through your life experience. Only then are you able to recognise how many times that lesson has been given up to you. Doing this allows you to convert the negative thought or experience into a positive lesson, you can then release the positive energy back into the matrix......
We see so much fear and chaos in the world today partly due to souls releasing negative energy, choosing to allow the ego to expel the negative thought rather than contemplate and own the experience. Controlling actions are another ego mind pattern. If you always come from the virtue of compassion you understand all actions are pre planned for lessons to be learned. The trick is to, control your thoughts not allow your thoughts to control you.

Oh boy! Have I been working on this task for some wonderful time. First, depending on how you were spoken to as a wee one, you'll have that amount of work to get to Ground Zero. I hope you came from a loving place, so less mind chatter of the negative sort. If you were spoken to poorly, or others around you didn't speak lovingly, you were only 3D and learned from them. Now your JOY is to unlearn! BE EASY BREEZY ON YOUR BEAUTIFUL SELF! KNOW MOST IMPORTANTLY YOU ARE PERFECT EXACTLY AS YOU ARE! Now it's going to come up that negative self talk, those tapes you play unkindly. Relax, conversationally just say something easy like, "oh boy, there you go...you forgot how Perfect you are." Let them blow out of your mind. Hindus,Buddhists call it 'maya' = "monkey mind" that plays with you. Don't beat yourself up, for to expend more energy is the reverse of what's best. Let go. Let God. Introduce a pause. If you're familiar with breathing, do some now....like 3 deep breaths in....hold a bit...then release, push them out using the beautiful, Universal "OM" (aum) sound...which is the sound the earth makes....a healing sound. For you need to repair your self, heal your self in new ways from old habits, old damage. Re-introduce some statement of how well you're doing "Hey, great you caught yourself. Enough of that!"

And compliment yourself. Then find new, kinder ways of speaking. Of course it takes practice! How many years have you been sloppy? lol lol Now you have to unlearn and replace with better ways to manage your beautiful self. LAUGH AT YOURSELF. RELEASE OXYGEN BY SMILING AT THE RECOGNITION OF YOUR NEW, EARNEST KINDER SELF. Smile the minute you think to til it's automatic. Take yourself LIGHTly...like angels do...surely you've heard that. I'll come back to help more another time...I've got to go into a meeting. Truth is there are many kind ways...see my Child Within blog...it's meant to re-teach us to talk to our inner selves as the precious child We Are. Bless your work...You are the Most Important Person in the World...and you need to know that and cherish yourself.

Thank you Laurence and Laughlight for your thoughtful responses. To be very honest- just to hear from another that it IS possible to rid oneself of negative thoughts is very empowering and inspires me to continue working towards that. After reading your posts, I am thinking that perhaps part of my strong discomfort and resistance surrounding these thoughts has been the guilt that I have associated with them. But to consider them as an opportunity to learn (and one that I asked for) really kind of takes the weight off of them and helps to put it all in perspective. This kind of thinking is very new to me. Thank you. I will take time to reflect on these thoughts and where they are coming from. Furthermore, to be reminded that I should treat myself kindly and with love while working through this is very meaningful. Though I know (big time) that I am very imperfect, I still put this pressure on myself. I am grateful for the exercises you offered, Laughlight and I am excited to put them into use when those thoughts begin to creep in. I think I'll be doing quite a bit of breathing and om-ing as I work on these issues- lol.
